A strategic shift is underway for rally ace Giancarlo Davite in the 2024 African Rally Championship (ARC). The Rwandan champion will forgo competing in the entire series, choosing instead to meticulously target select events.
Burundi and Rwanda have emerged as the frontrunners for Davite’s focused attack, hinting at a well-defined plan behind his decision.
While the Pearl of Africa Rally in Kampala, traditionally the ARC’s opening round, kicks off this weekend, Davite’s selective schedule suggests a strategic focus.
Perhaps he’s honing in on specific rallies to optimize his chances, or maybe resources are being meticulously allocated to these key races.
Davite revealed that he wouldn’t be entering the entire ARC in 2024. I will, however, appear at select events such as those in Burundi and Rwanda.”
The Rwandan rally champion might be able to refine his vehicle and ensure peak performance by focusing on a few rallies this year. In Burundi and Rwanda, this targeted approach could give the driver an advantage.
Another possibility is a strategic use of resources. Competing in the entire ARC requires significant financial backing and logistical expertise. Participating in only select rallies might allow Davite to devote resources more efficiently, possibly resulting in a better showing in his chosen races, like the Mountain Gorilla Rally in Rwanda on 28-30th June.
Regardless of the reasoning behind the limited schedule, Davite’s participation in the Burundi and Rwanda rallies is sure to generate excitement.
Meanwhile, this year’s opening round of ARC in Kampala attracted over 30 crews. There will only be two foreign crews from Kenya, Karan Patel and Hamza Anwar.
The rally starts on Friday with a qualifying stage for the ARC crew.
The rally then starts properly on Saturday with seven stages and three stages on Sunday. A total of 209.45 kilometers will be covered in the competition.
