Cricket: Host Rwanda collect first win

Host Rwanda ended the long wait by picking up the first win by beating Seychelles on the sword to win by 78 runs in a rain-affected match at Gahanga International cricket oval.

For the debutants Seychelles who bagged an emotional win over Lesotho on Sunday, getting to the historic occasion has not been easy.

On one hand, it was history in the making for right-handed batsman Orchide Tuyisenge. The 21 year old became Player of the Match and the first player for Rwanda to score a century in T20Is 100* (60). Vadodariya Mukesh posted 2/44 (4 overs).

Seychelles play Malawi in today action at Gahanga while Rwanda takes on Lesotho at IPRC Kicukiro.

Elsewhere, Ghana enjoyed the perfect performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional A Qualifier in Rwanda, banking three impressive wins. They beat Malawi by 7 wickets in their fourth game on Tuesday.

The West African side has continued to look up to their mission; they have four wins in four matches putting them in second position behind Uganda.

Favorites Uganda are building up a nice head of steam, after comfortable wins over Malawi (ten wickets) and the hosts, Rwanda, who were handed a 106-run drubbing on Sunday. They beat Eswatini won by 6 wickets on Tuesday.

Uganda tops the table, and is followed by Ghana; both sides are equal on 8 points but separated by a Net run rate of 1.094.

Eswatini who have are fourth ahead of Malawi but both sides have two points, both sides have won a single game. Eswatini lost to Uganda won by 6 wickets and they will face Ghana on Thursday morning at IPRC.

The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier is a tournament being played as part of qualification process for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, during October and November 2021.

Uganda 76/4 (12.1 overs)

Uganda won by 6 wickets
