On Monday Rwanda recorded the highest number of cases in a single day at 101 that increased the confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country to 1,001. The Ministry of Health (MINISANTE) indicated that the new infections were found out 2,498 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
From the increased number of infections 443 people have already recovered but there are 556 active cases still hospitalized and only two deaths registered. The ministry says that up to 140,249 people have so far been tested.
Among the 101 new patients this Monday, 22 were from Kigali (contaminated from the quarantined villages); 3 from Rusizi; 2 from Rubavu; 1 from Kirehe; and 72 from the Ngoma Detention Center in the East (not the Central Prison) who were contaminated by cross-border carriers on the Rusumo route.
Health officials encourages residents to strictly comply with the containment measures in force like washing hands several times with clean water and soap, observing the distance of at least one meter between one person and another, wearing a mask while in public or in multi-family residences and returning home at designated hours.
Motorcyclists are also encouraged to follow instructions to disinfect themselves when they pick up passengers. Authorities have warned that any kind of neglect can help increase the spread of COVID-19 and that negligence may force severe measures to stop the circulation of motorcycles in the country.
Likewise, prohibited movements from quarantined areas are warned to be avoided, as this would endanger the health of the public by spreading the disease.
As Rwanda reached the 1,000 mark of confirmed cases in the country, global statistics surpassed 10 million cases of Covid-19 with half a million death from the pandemic.
