The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended Burundian winger Jean Claude Girumugisha for three matches and fined him $5,000 following his conduct in Al Hilal Omdurman’s 2-1 win over MC Alger in the CAF Champions League.

CAF’s disciplinary committee reviewed the game, which was played at Stade Amahoro in Rwanda, and concluded that Girumugisha’s behaviour on the pitch was inappropriate. Contrary to earlier reports, he did not throw water at MC Alger’s substitutes, but was penalized for unsporting conduct during the match.

In addition to Girumugisha, Walid Sharshari, the team’s performance analyst, has also been suspended for three matches and fined $5,000. Al Hilal Omdurman as a club has been fined $15,000 due to disturbances that followed the match.

Al Hilal’s management has announced its intention to appeal the decision, insisting it has clear evidence showing that neither Girumugisha nor the team committed any wrongdoing.

The club said their lawyer, Pedro, will submit the appeal to CAF by Friday, 28 November 2025, and if unsatisfied with the outcome, they are prepared to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

If the suspension stands, Girumugisha will miss Al Hilal’s upcoming matches against Saint Eloi Lupopo this Sunday and the first leg of the tie against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sudanese giants left Kigali this morning en route to Lubumbashi for their second league match against Lupopo at Kamalondo Stadium this Sunday. They defeated MC Algers 2-1 in thier opening Group game at Amahoro stadium.
