Rwanda have climbed nine places to 119th in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking after making a strong start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
The Amavubi moved up from 128th with 1,156.16 points, compared with 1,126.62 in the previous ranking.
The rise takes Rwanda back into the world’s top 120 for the first time since 2017.
It comes after two wins from their opening AFCON qualifying matches. Rwanda beat Liberia 3-1 before securing a 2-1 win over Cape Verde, giving them a perfect six points.
It is the first time Rwanda have won their opening two matches in an AFCON qualifying campaign.
The latest ranking is also the team’s best since 2017. Rwanda reached 113th that year before moving further up to a record 93rd position.
Their best-ever FIFA ranking remains 64th, achieved during Stephen Constantine’s first spell as head coach between 2014 and 2015.
Rwanda rose from 134th to 64th during that period.
Spain continue to lead the world rankings, ahead of Argentina, France, England and Brazil.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team in sixth place globally. Senegal are next, followed by Egypt, Nigeria and Algeria.
Rwanda’s next FIFA ranking update is due on 18 November.
