The highly anticipated inauguration of the newly renovated Amahoro Stadium has received a date change! Originally scheduled to coincide with Rwanda’s 30th Liberation Day on July 4th, the Ministry of Sports (MINISPORTS) has announced a shift to July 1st.
This move separates the two significant events, allowing each the focus it deserves. “We wanted to avoid having them overlap,” explained Zephanie Niyonkuru, Permanent Secretary of MINISPORTS.
The inauguration ceremony on July 1st will be marked by a friendly match featuring Rwandan football giants, Police FC and APR FC. This symbolic choice coincides perfectly with Rwanda’s Independence Day celebrations.
This will be the second match played at the Amahoro Stadium since its major facelift. The first, held on June 15th, was a friendly derby between APR FC and Rayon Sports. It served as a successful test run for the stadium’s facilities, crowd control, and logistics, further solidifying its readiness for international football events, as approved by FIFA.
The inauguration of the Amahoro Stadium marks a significant milestone for Rwandan sports. This ultra-modern facility promises to be a game-changer, attracting major sporting events and boosting the nation’s sporting infrastructure.
With the celebration of Independence Day as a backdrop, the inauguration is set to be a momentous occasion, symbolizing Rwanda’s progress and bright future.
