Egypt’s Al Ahly SC were crowned champions of the 2026 CAVB Men’s Club Championship after beating Rwanda’s Police VC in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22), in the final played on Saturday, May 2, at BK Arena in Kigali.

The victory saw Al Ahly lift their record-extending 17th African club title, further cementing their status as the most successful men’s volleyball club on the continent.

Despite the defeat, Police VC also made history by reaching the final for the first time ever, becoming the first Rwandan club to achieve that milestone.

Al Ahly controlled the final from the start and wrapped up the match in one hour and 21 minutes. Across the three sets, the Egyptian side outscored Police VC 75-63.

Police VC star Elphas Maikuva Makuto finished as the top scorer in the match with 17 points, while Al Ahly’s Jose Israel Masso Alvarez contributed 13 points for the champions.

Makuto also ended the tournament as one of its standout players, scoring 141 points overall, compared to Masso Alvarez’s 78.

During the 10-day tournament hosted in Rwanda, Police VC became the only team to score more than 20 points against Al Ahly in a single set. The Egyptian giants completed the competition unbeaten, without losing either a match or a set.

Rwanda also marked another milestone by hosting the CAVB Men’s Club Championship for the first time. The home teams impressed throughout the tournament, with two Rwandan clubs finishing among the top three.

REG VC secured third place after defeating Egypt’s Petrojet Sporting Club 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17).

The other Rwandan representatives included Kepler VC, who finished seventh, and APR VC, who placed 11th among the 24 participating teams.

At the end of the tournament, eight outstanding players were recognized, including four from Rwandan clubs and three from Egyptian sides.

REG VC’s Matui Nicholas was named Best Outside Hitter, while Police VC players Frank Shyaka (Best Middle Blocker), Melly Brian Kiprui (Best Setter), and Irakoze Alain (Best Libero) were also honored for their performances.

For Al Ahly, Abdelrahman Elhossiny Eissa earned the Best Outside Hitter award, Abou Abd Elhalim Mohamed was named Best Middle Blocker, and Masso Alvarez Jose Israel received the Best Opposite award.

Abdelrahman Elhossiny Eissa was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The 24-year-old, who stands 1.9 meters tall, scored 60 points during the competition.
