Airtel Rwanda has announced the appointment of Emmanuel Hamez as new Managing Director, taking over from Amit Chawla who resigned at the end of July this year having served three years.
Hamez brings to Airtel Rwanda over four years of experience from the Democratic Republic of Congo were he served in the similar role as Managing Director for the same telecommunication company.
In DRC, Hamez grew Airtel’s customer base, ensuring investments were targeted at achieving the goals and objectives of the company.
He is commended for having observed how strong it was to build a steady and sustainable business, setting up 4G and rolling out data network and for growing the firm’s customers base by ensuring that the investments were targeted at achieving the goals and objectives of the organisation
He also served as Chief Executive Officer of Econet Leo in Burundi, Managed Expresso at Telecome Senegal and was also the Chief Executive Officer of Sudani Mobile.
Hamez has also served as Group Chief Technical Officer of Sudani Sudan, Managing Director of Celtel Congo B, Group Operations Manager of Celtel Africa, based in the Netherlands.

It is now over nine years since the telecommunication company also joined the Rwandan market. Last year, the company acquired a 12-year unified license to operate as Airtel Rwanda, after operating for two years as Airtel-Tigo.
Airtel Rwanda Limited acquired 100 per cent equity in Tigo Rwanda, which, according to 2017 in October figures, had 3.4 million subscribers in the Rwanda market.
