In a groundbreaking partnership aimed at transforming healthcare delivery, this Thursday, Audere, a digital health non-profit focused on advancing health equity with its HealthPulse solutions, announced a new partnership with Fionet Inc.

The collaboration aims to bring AI-powered healthcare tools to over 50,000 community health workers (CHWs) across Rwanda. The joint solution combines Fionet’s mobile health technology with Audere’s HealthPulse™ AI, designed to enhance primary care delivery in the country.

Rwanda’s Ministry of Health has begun rolling out the solution, with 2,000 community health workers already trained to use the platform across 800 villages in four of the country’s five provinces. The national scale-up is expected to continue over the next 12 months, bringing the solution to even more health workers in rural areas.

Sylvere Mugumya, a Business Analyst with the Ministry of Health said, “The integration of AI into our mobile health platform is a key part of our national strategy to provide equitable, affordable, and high-quality healthcare. This partnership will help strengthen our health system and improve the well-being of all Rwandans.”

The Fionet Suite, which includes guided case management, mobile electronic medical records (EMRs), point-of-care testing, and large-scale data capture, has been a game-changer for primary care in Rwanda. Now, with HealthPulse AI embedded in the suite, diagnostic results from a wide range of tests will be more reliable, enabling community health workers to make faster and more accurate decisions at the point of care.

Dr. Michael Greenberg, Founder and CEO of Fionet, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Partnering with the Rwanda Ministry of Health is inspiring. Their leadership, vision, and dedication to healthcare excellence make them an ideal partner for scaling impactful solutions. We’re also deeply grateful to Audere for making AI a practical tool for primary care.”

The role of AI in improving healthcare quality is also being demonstrated through a recent study conducted by Audere, in partnership with Jhpiego, which showed the power of AI in assisting CHWs with malaria rapid diagnostic tests. The study revealed a remarkable 72% improvement in the ability of CHWs to detect faint test lines, helping them identify those in need of additional medical support. Additionally, 9% of participants were flagged for further supervision, underscoring the value of AI in ensuring proper care.

Dr. Dino Rech, CEO of Audere, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Working with Fionet and the Ministry of Health to scale AI solutions in Rwanda is an incredible opportunity. Through AI, we are offering a powerful tool that not only helps improve the quality of testing but also provides the Ministry with actionable insights to better support their frontline health workers.”

The integration of HealthPulse AI into Fionet Suite marks a significant milestone in the use of AI-powered healthcare solutions in Rwanda. This partnership aims to revolutionize how CHWs and health facilities conduct diagnostics, ensuring more accurate results, effective disease surveillance, and enhanced supervision.

With Rwanda’s commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes, this initiative represents a major leap forward in the use of technology to support public health—empowering health workers and improving lives across the country.
