The Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has launched its annual social responsibility activities that will see the army covering the whole country providing free medical services construct houses for the poor, schools and agricultural activities.

Dubbed ‘RDF Citizen Outreach Programme’ the initiative has been rebranded from the previous catchword as ‘Army Week’ after successive years developing it in scope, duration and impact. The activities will run from April 20 to July 30.

“Historically, Army Week has developed in scope, duration and impact to the well-being of Rwandans.  All these activities are aimed at supporting National Programs in addressing human security issues affecting the Rwandan population”, observed the RDF Spokesperson, Lt Col Innocent Munyengango.

The Army announced that this year they will provide free medical services to an estimated 113,000 patients, construct 1,961 houses, 121 classrooms and 108 school pit latrines for the vulnerable in areas selected, improve health and sanitation while conducting agricultural activities on 4,511 Hectares of land.

Since the activities are aimed at supporting national programs, they will be conducted in collaboration with the ministries of health, education, agriculture, local government, and ministry of gender and family promotion.
