The Zakat Foundation of America in partnership with the Abdallah Kiromba Foundation (AKF), has extended support to orphaned and vulnerable children and their families for the first term of the academic year that began in September 2026.

The initiative, which combines family support with the provision of essential school materials, aims to ease the financial burden on disadvantaged households and help children begin the new term with the resources they need to continue their education.

School fees was paid directly to the children’s schools while distribution of other necessities were carried out in several locations, including Kimisagara in Kigali City, Kabarore in Gatsibo District, Rubavu District and Musanze District, reaching children and families facing financial hardship.

The assistance comes at a time when many vulnerable households struggle to meet basic needs while also paying school-related expenses. For families caring for orphaned children, the cost of exercise books, pens, school bags, shoes and other learning materials can be a significant obstacle to a smooth start to the school term.

Through the initiative, Zakat Foundation of America and AKF seek to address some of these challenges by supporting children’s educational needs alongside assistance intended to improve the welfare of their families.

The Abdallah Kiromba Foundation is a Rwandan nonprofit organization that supports vulnerable communities through education, healthcare and social welfare programmes. Its partnership with the Zakat Foundation of America has enabled it to provide assistance to orphaned children and families experiencing hardship.

Donati Niyonsaba, President and Legal Representative of AKF urged parents to take good care of the children by following up on their studies and encourage children to work hard with purpose.

According to Niyonsaba, supporting vulnerable children requires attention not only to their education but also to the circumstances in which they live.

By combining school materials with family support, the initiative seeks to help children remain focused on their studies while easing some of the pressures faced by the households caring for them.

AKF continues to prioritize education and family welfare as part of its wider commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children across Rwanda. The foundation believes that supporting children at the beginning of the school term can help reduce barriers to learning and give them a better opportunity to progress in school.

Through its continued collaboration with the Zakat Foundation of America, AKF aims to strengthen support for orphaned children and disadvantaged families, ensuring that financial difficulties do not stand in the way of education, dignity and a brighter future.
