Rwanda is campaigning to keep its seat on the council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the 2027–2030 term, positioning itself as a growing force in global digital policy and innovation.
Speaking to ITU council members in Geneva, Rwanda’s ambassador to the United Nations, Urujeni Bakuramutsa, outlined the country’s focus on expanding digital infrastructure, scaling artificial intelligence and attracting technology investment as part of its pitch.

Rwanda has served on the ITU Council since 2010, using the platform to advocate for broader access to information and communication technologies and to support international efforts aimed at narrowing the global digital divide.
ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin praised Rwanda’s role in advancing digital development, highlighting its emergence as a regional technology hub and its initiatives to build digital skills and innovation ecosystems.
She also noted the country’s progress in artificial intelligence and its increasing engagement in shaping international technology standards and policy.
