Rwanda is set to host the qualifiers for the U-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup, with 14 countries participating in the international competition between August and September 2024. The matches will take place at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium in Kicukiro District.

The tournament is divided into two phases. The first phase, scheduled for August 21-27, 2024, will see eight teams—Kenya, Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana, Lesotho, Ghana, Eswatini, and Sierra Leone—compete in the second division. The top two teams from this phase will advance to join the first division teams in the final stage of the qualifiers.

In September 2024, the first division teams—Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Namibia, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe—will battle for a coveted spot in the U-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup. The tournament will culminate with one team earning qualification for the World Cup.

Emmanuel Byiringiro, Operations Manager at the Rwanda Cricket Association, expressed pride in Rwanda’s selection to host the qualifiers for the third time, following successful events in 2021 and 2022. Byiringiro highlighted that Rwanda’s continued role as host reflects the trust and confidence the International Cricket Council (ICC) has in the country’s organizational capabilities.

He also emphasized that the Rwandan team is well-prepared and optimistic about securing a World Cup spot through these qualifiers, noting that this opportunity is crucial for showcasing the team’s talent on the global stage.

This event marks another significant milestone for Rwandan cricket, as the country continues to establish itself as a key player in the international cricket community.
