Weatherman warns of strong winds in parts of Rwanda

The Rwanda Meteorological Department has announced strong winds ranging between 10 m/s and 13 m/s in some part of the country.

The districts include Eastern parts of Rubavu and Nyamasheke Districts, and Southern parts of Rutsiro District and many parts of Karongi district.

According to Mateo, moderate to strong winds ranging between 7 and 10 m/s are expected in the remaining parts of Western Province, in Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Kirehe and in many parts of Ruhango, Nyanza, Burera and Musanze Districts as well as in some parts of Ngoma.

“The Districts of Gatsibo, Muhanga and Gakenke District will receive modest winds ranging between 4 and 7 m/s,” the Met department said.

Residents in all the mentioned areas have been advised to be on the lookout for very strong winds in these locations.

The strong winds may blow off roofs, uproot trees and cause structural damages.

In addition, the Met announced that rainfall ranging between 10 and 15 mm is expected over Musanze and Rubavu Districts and in northern parts of Nyabihu District, while the areas around Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Gakenke, and in the remaining parts of Nyabihu will receive rainfall ranging between 5 and 10 mm.

“Rainfall ranging between 5 and 10mm is expected in many parts of Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Gakenke, in the remaining parts of Nyabihu, northern parts of Burera, Ngororero and Muhanga Districts and in parts of Nyungwe National Park located in Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru Districts. The remaining bigger part of the country is expected to record rainfall ranging between 0 and 5 mm as per the map below” the statement from met read.
