The Rwandese Federation of Association Football (FERWAFA) has announced the appointment of new coaches for both the men’s and women’s national teams.

In an official statement, FERWAFA confirmed the appointments, stating, “We are pleased to inform the general public, especially the football family, that the following individuals have been appointed by FERWAFA as the National Teams Coaches.”

Adel Amrouche, the Algerian coach, has been named the head coach of the Rwanda men’s senior national team. Amrouche was the former coach of Kenya’s men’s national football team.

The experienced Algerian will be assisted by Eric Nshimiyimana as the first assistant coach and Dr. Carolin Braun (Germany) as the second assistant coach.

Meanwhile, former AFC Leopards coach André Cassa Mbungo has been appointed as the head coach of Rwanda’s women’s national teams, overseeing both the senior and youth sides. In addition to his coaching duties, Mbungo will also take on a role in football development within the National Technical Directorate.

“Mr. CASSA MBUNGO ANDRÉ will also be in charge of Football Development in the Office of the National Technical Directorate,” read part of the statement.

Amrouche brings a wealth of experience to the Rwandan squad, having managed several national teams. He served as the head coach of Kenya’s national football team, the Harambee Stars, from February 2013 until August 2014. During his tenure with Kenya, Amrouche led the team in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and guided them to victory in the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, where the Harambee Stars emerged as champions.

Beyond Kenya, Amrouche has previously coached the Burundi national team (2007–2012), leading them in several African Nations Championship (CHAN) and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaigns. After his stint in Kenya, he took charge of the Libya national team in 2018 and briefly managed Botswana from 2019 to 2022.

At the club level, Amrouche has managed sides such as DC Motema Pembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo (2002–2004), USM Alger in Algeria (2016), and MC Alger (2018–2019), among others, adding further depth to his coaching credentials.

Mbungo, on the other hand, is no stranger to Rwandan football, having previously coached several clubs in the country. He was appointed head coach of Kenya’s AFC Leopards in February 2019 but resigned in December 2019 due to non-payment issues. His club coaching experience includes spells with Rwandan sides such as AS Kigali, Police FC, Kiyovu Sports, and Rayon Sports.
