Rwanda National Police arrested Shema Arnaud, better known DJ Toxxyk following a road accident in which a police officer on duty was killed in the early hours of Saturday.
The incident happened at dawn on 20 December 2025 along the Payage road, as the suspect was driving from the Kiyovu area of Kigali. Police say the officer was standing by the roadside when he was struck by the vehicle and died at the scene.
According to police, the driver fled immediately after the crash but was later tracked down and arrested in Karongi District the same afternoon.
The Rwanda National Police spokesperson, ACP Boniface Rutikanga, confirmed the arrest, telling local media that the suspect is currently being held at Remera Police Station.
“He was arrested in the afternoon after initially going missing. He was found in Karongi, although we do not yet know where he was heading,” ACP Rutikanga said.
Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether alcohol may have been involved.
Witnesses said the vehicle was travelling at high speed as it descended the Payage road. They reported that the driver appeared to lose control, crossed into the opposite lane and mounted the roadside where the officer was standing.
The vehicle is said to have dragged the officer for approximately 30 metres.
Initial accounts suggest the driver may have failed to control the car after hitting barriers installed at a nearby road construction site, before veering towards the officer.
Police say further details will be released as investigations continue.
