On August 3, 2025, in the Muhanga District, Nyamabuye Sector, Gifumba Cell, authorities, local residents, and the police successfully arrested a group of 15 people—13 men and 2 women—suspected of theft and violence.

The suspects are accused of engaging in criminal activities that disturb public peace and security, including stealing at night, robbing residents, breaking into homes, and committing other violent crimes.

The two women arrested are believed to have been sheltering the thieves and hiding stolen goods. All the arrested individuals are being held at the Nyamabuye Police Station, and an investigation has already begun.

According to Police spokesperson for the Southern Province, CIP Kamanazi Hassan, the arrests were made after receiving tip-offs from some of the suspects who provided information about their criminal partners.

CIP Kamanazi said, “When we arrest some suspects, they often tell us about their collaborators in these crimes, which helps us arrest more people. The women, who are known to be involved in prostitution, were hiding stolen items which were likely going to be sold.”

He also urged people who shelter others to pay attention to their backgrounds and activities, as this information can help identify individuals with bad intentions.

The police spokesperson also thanked community partners for their continued support in sharing timely information and reminded those involved in illegal activities to change their behavior. He stressed that the police will not tolerate actions that threaten public safety and peace.
