Kinshasa: The military high court in the Democratic Republic of Congo has postponed the reading of the sentence for former president Joseph Kabila Kabange.
The court has instead reopened the case to hear additional witnesses.
A panel of five judges resumed proceedings on Friday, July 19, to allow more testimonies in the trial. The sentencing had been expected this Friday, with the prosecutor having requested the death penalty for Kabila.
Lawyers representing the claimants have requested the annulment of three witness testimonies, arguing that the $24 million in reparations initially demanded is insufficient.
Joseph Kabila led the Democratic Republic of Congo from 2001 until 2019. The trial continues to draw significant attention as the court carefully considers all evidence and witness accounts.
