The Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) has announced that the first-ever African Cycling Excellence Awards will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, on 28 and 29 November 2025.

Building on the momentum of the first World Cycling Championships ever staged in Africa, the awards aim to celebrate the continent’s top cycling talent, both professional and amateur, in an event that promises to unite Africa’s growing cycling community.

The ceremony, organized under the leadership of Dr. Yao Allah-Kouamé, President of the Confederation of African Cycling and the Ivorian Cycling Federation, will take place at the same venues that hosted the globally acclaimed World Championships earlier this year.

“This will be a celebration of African cycling excellence, recognition of those whose performances and influence have put the continent on the world stage,” Dr. Kouamé said in a statement from Cairo.

The awards will honour cyclists in four main categories:

–           Best male cyclist (all categories)

–           Best female elite cyclist

–           Best amateur male cyclist

–           Best African national cycling team

As the host nation, Rwanda will also present four additional trophies, including Best Rwandan male and female elite cyclists, as well as honorary trophies for the best male and female cyclists from the East African Community (EAC).

Each winner will receive a uniquely crafted trophy symbolizing artistic excellence and sporting achievement.

The African Cycling Excellence Awards mark a new chapter for the sport on the continent. A panel of African and international cycling experts, alongside public votes, will determine the winners, a move designed to combine expert evaluation with the voice of the fans.

Rwanda will host the awards in both 2025 and 2026, after which the ceremony will rotate annually among different African countries.

With Kigali increasingly recognized as a cycling capital in Africa, the event is expected to further cement Rwanda’s status as a hub for continental sporting excellence.
