The President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, Carmel Agius, has decided to send Félicien Kabuga to The Hague in Holland to be tried for crimes of Genocide, according to a statement signed by Judge Carmel Agius.
The press statement indicates that this decision is in keeping with the health and safety of Kabuga, but also to respect the request of Kabuga’s lawyers who consider that trying him in Arusha far from his family is a violation of his rights.
The Paris Court of Appeal rejected all these grievances and decided to transfer Kabuga to Arusha for trial.
The statement specifies that trying Kabuga in The Hague will allow good preparation of the case.
