The Community of Sahel-Saharan States on Thursday 8 october 2020, welcomed the agreements reached between the delegation of the High Council of State and that of the House of Representatives in the framework of the 2nd round of the inter-Libyan dialogue in Bouznika.

In a statement, CEN-SAD said it had followed with satisfaction the conclusion, on Tuesday, October 6, of the second round of Bouznika negotiations between the Libyan parties under the aegis of Morocco, while welcoming the agreement reached on “the mechanisms and criteria for the selection of the holders of leadership positions in the sovereign institutions as set out in Article 15 of the Skhirat agreement signed in December 2015”.

It also welcomed “the firm will of all parties to overcome the current political divisions in the best interest of the Libyan nation, as well as their commitment to use the Libya Skhirat Political Agreement of 2015 and the conclusions of the Berlin Conference on Libya of 2020 as reference documents for a comprehensive agreement”.

CEN-SAD also reiterated its highest appreciation to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, for “the impetus given to the inter-Libyan dialogue for the constancy in the support to the Libyan parties, further proof of the constructive commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco, appreciated and commended, both bilaterally and multilaterally, for peace, security and socio-economic development in Africa”.

CEN-SAD furthermore congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr Nasser Bourita, “for the fruitful accompaniment of these inter-Libyan talks” and strongly supports his appeal to the international community for active and coordinated support to the peace and national reconciliation process in Libya.

The Community of Sahel-Saharan States renews its readiness to accompany the Libyan parties in the implementation of this “Bouznika consensus”, a guarantee of peace and stability in Libya and the entire Sahel-Saharan region, the communiqué concludes.
