The Anglican Church of Rwanda has issued a strong statement addressing recent remarks by Bishop Bilindabagabo, accusing him of causing division and spreading misinformation about the church’s internal affairs.
In the statement released on October 14, 2025, the Church expressed concern over the actions of some retired leaders who continue to interfere in church governance without authorization. It noted that such behavior undermines unity, peace, and mutual respect among believers.
“Being in retirement doesn’t give anyone the right to act as they please,” the statement read. “We are guided by the Word of God to serve with integrity, manage God’s resources responsibly, and remain accountable in all we do.”
The Church specifically criticized Bishop Bilindabagabo for statements suggesting that certain actions within the church were not sinful but would be considered so if done outside the institution. The Anglican leadership said his comments do not represent the values or practices of all bishops.
“If that is how he used to conduct himself, it does not mean we all do the same,” the Church added, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and moral conduct.
The Anglican Church also addressed misinformation regarding Bishop Mugisha, clarifying that he is no longer the Bishop of Shyira Diocese and that his case is currently before the courts.
“The Church does not interfere with the judicial processes of the state,” the statement noted.
The statement reaffirmed resolutions made during the Bishops’ retreat in April 2025, which focused on strengthening unity within the church and promoting harmony among Rwandans.
The Church concluded by urging all individuals, especially retired leaders, to refrain from making unauthorized statements about its governance, warning that such actions mislead the public and disrupt the peace of the faith community.
