In an effort to save energy and improve livelihoods, 250 residents of the Nyagatare district have received improved cooking stoves in order to sustain and increase forest cover.
The stoves were donated on Thursday, June 16, 2022, by Rwanda Forestry Authority in collaboration with the Alliance for Restoration of Forest Landscapes and Ecosystems in Africa) project.

In addition to improving people’s lives while contributing to climate change mitigation, the distributed cook stoves will also contribute to reduced deforestation rates and at the same time offer several families the opportunity to engage in other income-generating activities.
In his speech, the Mayor of Nyagatare district Matsiko reminded residents to continue involving in forest conservation.
Since March, AREECA project has planted 1500 agroforestry tree species and distributed improved cooking stoves to 500 families in need.
