Two blasts in the centre of Uganda’s capital Kampala has killed at least two people and set several cars on fire on Tuesday, local television reported.
NTV Uganda reported that “scores” had been injured and that there had been two blasts – one very close to the country’s parliament and one near the central police station.
Parliament was being evacuated, the television station reported.
No terrorist organization has thus far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Ambulances arrived and left the scene with victims being rushed to various hospitals for emergency treatment.
Police threw a cordon around the Parliamentary Avenue, as bomb experts combed the area.
Uganda parliamentary avenue hosts several government offices, including ministries of Justice, ICT and Education.
According to reports, some of the people injured in the explosion were given first aid at the KCCA City Hall health facility. They have been moved from the Kampala City Council Authority facility with more equipped health facilities including Mulga Hospital.
“We got about 17 casualties who we managed to stabiles. We have since referred about 12 of these to Mulago and other hospitals while 5 have been sent home “ Dr Sarah, Kampala City Council Authority hospital.
