Rwandan women football head coach, Grace Nyinawumuntu, has spoken about her frustrations in preparations of 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers set to kick off in October.
The She-Amavubi coach was speaking about her first mission since being appointed as head coach in July.
Rwanda will face Ethiopia in the first round of qualifiers to take place between October 18 and 16 and the second round will take place between February 14 and 23, 2023.
Asked about the team preparations, Nyinawumuntu said; “We kicked off the preparations on Sunday, however misrepresentation of age by three of our players has affected our planning”
“When we started the process of travel documents, it came to our understanding that three players had misrepresented their age, they’re over 20 years. We had summoned 30 players; we have to find replacements.” She noted.
Nonetheless, Nyinawumuntu said that she was happy that her side was working his way back to full match fitness having spent a time without playing football because the 2020/2021 women league was suspended because of the outbreak of the pandemic that froze sporting activities.
Grace’s first mission will then begin against Ethiopia. The first leg will be played from 23 to 25 September 2021 in Rwanda. The second leg will be played in Ethiopia from 7 to 9 October 2021.
