Representatives from member organisations of the Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN) met on Wednesday, 18th August 2021 at Hilltop Hotel in Kigali in a one-day training workshop on gender mainstreaming.
The training conducted by RCCDN secretariat was reviewing the status of gender mainstreaming, gender equality, gender barrier analysis and power relations skills in member organisations.
Faustin Vuningoma, the Coordinator of RCCDN underlined the importance of gender mainstreaming in all the programmes and projects and ensuring that gender equality and equity are respected in their organisations.
He said that in the past women had been disregarded in various activities of the society but where they have been empowered things have positively changed showing that women are very capable.
The workshop heard that the idea was to promote gender equality that can lead to an equitable society.
Fred Muhizi, who conducted the training emphasized the need for civil society organisations to primarily gender mainstream in their respective organisations.
The training empowered participants in ways of removing gender barriers and improve their gender relation skills.
During the training workshop various issues were tackled like the difference between gender and sex, information on how socially constructed gender norms affect the daily lives of women and men. Other issues included assessing gender gaps in organisations and how to fix the gaps, raising sensitivity of workers on gender equality issues at their work place and plans of action as well as specifying mechanisms for follow up on gender mainstreaming in organisations.
The one-day training workshop targeted at least 18 participants from members of RCCDN and was supported by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) through Public Policy Information, Monitoring and Advocacy, PPIMA project.
