By Jejje Muhinde;

Claude Aimé Ezoua’s time as Silverbacks head coach and national technical director has come to an end following the confirmation by Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF).

RRF has confirmed that Ivorian Ezoua has vacated his position as head coach and technical director.

RRF on the hand have recognized his contribution and efforts over the last two years when he improved rugby in Rwanda,.

The news was confirmed by RRF president Tharcisse Kamanda when he said, “Ezoua has left Rwanda to join Ivory Coast; we’re in talks with the Ministry of Sports in order to find a replacement” RRF explained.

He added, “We thank him and wish him all the best for the next chapter in his coaching career. We shall announce any new developments in regards to the coach and technical director positions”

There are reports that the lockdown which led to the suspension of Rugby since last year due to the outbreak of the pandemic was partly to blame.

The former French born and Côte d’Ivoire international was signed as the Silverbacks head coach in January 2018 during which he guided the team in two continental games.

The first was during the Africa Rugby Cup between Rwanda against Côte d’Ivoire which ended 3-60.

He was also in charge of the Silverbacks when the team faced Ghana in the African Bronze Rugby Division qualifiers which ended in the calamity defeat.

Efforts to reach out to Ezoua for a comment were not possible because the French born is said to have left Rwanda, though RRF has also revealed that the coach left to join Ivory Coast, a team he once managed in 1995 and achieved surprise qualification to the Rugby World Cup.

He continued his coaching career afterwards and was coach of Swiss Rugby Club CERN since 2007/08 to 2009/10, managing to reach the First Division in his first season.
