The Skhirate Agreement remains the only document of reference for the resolution of the Libyan crisis, said on Wednesday 21st October, 2020, in Rabat-Morocco, Chairman of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Al Mechri.

It is a constitutional document since it forms part of the constitutional declaration in Libya, Al Mechri told reporters following talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

The latest UN Security Council resolution considers that the political agreement is a reference, he added.

Mechri also said that his visit to Morocco, the fourth of its kind, confirms the positive role played by the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, May God Assist Him, as well as its position aimed at reaching a consensus to resolve the Libyan crisis.

The important efforts made by Morocco have led to agreements in Bouznika between the Libyan High Council of State and the House of Representatives on sovereign positions, he added.

According to Al Mechri, the efforts must now be focused on the examination of the means to implement the Bouznika agreements in order to allow the economic and financial balance of the State to be restored and to reach final solutions in Libya.

He also insisted on the need to implement article 15 of the political agreement and to think about the organization of elections.

“We are beginning to engage on the right track to achieve the completion of the transition period, with the help of the Moroccan brothers,” he said, reiterating thanks and gratitude to Morocco, King, Government and people, for efforts to bring Libyans together.
