Kayonza District has distributed 271 new houses to the needy and homeless. The houses were built in financial year 2019/2020 so that needy families could be settled in decent settlements. The district also started another phase of building more houses envisioned to settle 397 families.

Jean Claude Murenzi, the Mayor of Kayonza District revealed that during this fiscal year they will build for 397 other families who live in dilapidated houses which could cause problems at any time.

Mayor Murenzi urged residents to take good care of the houses given to them because they now belong to them.

Solange, a 46-year-old mother of three children in Nyamirama area said she was happy to receive the house as she had lived in poor conditions for long. The struggling mother said she is trying to get out of poverty, raise her children properly and change their lives.

Another resident of Mukarange, Mukambuguje Leocadie, 65, who has been renting for the past eight years, said she was grateful to the authorities who have built her a decent home.

Each residential building cost Rwf 3 million, the house has at least three rooms and is equipped chairs, beds, a bathroom, a toilet and a kitchen.
