The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission (HR/VP), Mrs. Kaja Kallas, described, on Thursday, the partnership between the EU and Morocco as “rich, multidimensional, and privileged,” welcoming a relationship “forged over more than half a century of close cooperation and mutual trust.”

In a Joint Communiqué issued following her meeting in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, the European official emphasized “the depth, dynamism, and strategic importance” of this partnership, reaffirming the shared determination to further consolidate “this strategic partnership of equals.”

Mrs. Kallas also highlighted the future prospects of this exceptional cooperation, noting that the two parties have agreed to finalize, in due course, a “strategic and comprehensive partnership” that will elevate bilateral relations to a higher level.

In this spirit, the EU and Morocco have agreed to reinforce the cycle of institutional meetings within the framework of the Association Agreement, in order to ensure continuity and predictability for their cooperation.

The two sides also discussed regional and international matters of mutual interest, including the Iran war, the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine and the Sahel, reiterating their shared commitment to a rules-based international order and effective multilateralism.

This visit to Rabat, the first of its kind for the senior European official, demonstrates the EU’s growing appreciation for Morocco’s key role under the leadership of His Majesty the King, as well as the convergence of views between the two partners to build a common future based on respect, trust, and a shared ambition in the service of European and Moroccan citizens.
