Rwanda is showcasing its commitment to quality standards as a key driver of sustainable development at the 2025 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Annual Meeting in Kigali.

Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva on Monday, October 6, 2025, said embedding quality standards in trade has helped Rwanda gain international trust and strengthen its economy.

“The government has prioritized quality, product testing, and metrology at the heart of our development strategies,” Dr. Nsengiyumva said. “This approach has allowed us to build competitive trade, ensure safety, enhance product and service reliability, support tourism, boost industry, and accelerate innovation and technology adoption.”

He added that prioritizing quality has enabled Rwanda to compete more effectively both regionally and globally. “This week provides a unique opportunity for countries and partners to demonstrate how quality can drive sustainable development,” he said.

ISO President Dr. Sung Hwan Chu highlighted the importance of the meeting in promoting cross-border trade and building trust among member nations. “This forum is a platform to share knowledge and foster collaboration in advancing quality,” he said.

The conference, themed “United for Impact,” runs through October 10 and brings together more than 1,000 delegates from 176 countries, including government officials, international organizations, business leaders, standards authorities, consumer protection groups, research institutions, and NGOs.

The ISO Annual Meeting is recognized globally as a premier forum for discussing international quality standards, innovation, and strategies to enhance business performance, competitiveness, and sustainable development worldwide.
