Alexandre Muyenge, the new Acting President of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), has pledged to strengthen youth development, promote women’s football, and enhance the visibility of regional competitions across the continent.
Muyenge, who also serves as President of the Burundi Football Federation, took over the CECAFA leadership on Wednesday from outgoing Acting President Augustino Maduot Parek at a ceremony held at the body’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The handover was attended by CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo, Executive Committee Member Doris Petra, and staff members.
In his farewell, Parek reflected on his tenure, highlighting achievements such as advancing the construction of CECAFA headquarters, reviving the Kagame Cup, and promoting youth competitions. He thanked member associations for their support and called for unity going forward.
The transition marks a significant chapter for CECAFA as it seeks to cement its role in nurturing football talent and fostering regional integration. Muyenge will serve as Acting President until the 2026 Elective General Assembly.
