Kiyovu Sports has once again landed in hot water with FIFA, facing a fresh transfer ban for failing to pay players and coaches dating back several years.
Sources close told BB Kigali FM that the club has been penalized by world football’s governing body for violating payment regulations, resulting in a three-year ban from signing any new players.
This development comes shortly after Kiyovu was previously ordered to pay RWF 157 million in unpaid dues—a demand that had been temporarily relaxed by FIFA pending further compliance.
However, according to the latest decision, FIFA has now officially imposed the heavy sanction, citing continued breaches of contractual obligations with former players and technical staff.
“This is a very serious decision,” a source familiar with the case said. “Even if the club pays up later, there is no guarantee the sanctions will be lifted immediately.”
The timing of the ban could not be worse. Kiyovu Sports, which has invested heavily in rebuilding and recruiting talent in recent months, may now see its efforts go to waste.
“Will all the energy Kiyovu invested this season end up being in vain?” one fan lamented.
The club’s management has not yet issued an official statement, but pressure is mounting as fans and stakeholders demand transparency and urgent action.
Kiyovu Sports has struggled with financial issues in the past, and this latest blow raises questions about the club’s long-term sustainability and governance.
