The Malawi Women’s National Cricket Team wrapped up their 2025 Kwibuka T20 Cup campaign with a spirited performance against Zimbabwe, falling short by 30 runs in their final group-stage encounter.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, Malawi delivered a disciplined bowling effort, restricting Zimbabwe to 125 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Malawian side battled hard but could only manage 95 runs for 9 wickets.

Despite the loss, the team’s final display highlighted their resilience and growth over the course of the tournament. Malawi played a total of eight matches during the competition, gaining valuable international exposure and building cohesion as a squad.

Although wins proved elusive, the team impressed observers with their fighting spirit and steady improvement. The Kwibuka T20 Cup, hosted annually in Rwanda to commemorate the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, has become a premier platform for African women’s cricket.

This year’s edition featured some of the continent’s strongest sides, offering Malawi a crucial opportunity to compete at a higher level and assess their progress on the international stage.

As they head home, the Malawi Women’s National Team carries lessons and momentum that could shape the future of the sport in the country. The 2025 Kwibuka T20 Cup may have come to an end, but for Malawi, the journey in women’s cricket is just beginning.
