The Minister of Sports and Culture, Nelly Mukazayire, on March 4, 2025, welcomed a delegation led by the President of the African Handball Confederation (CAHB), Dr. Adolphe Aremou Mansourou, who is in Rwanda for a working visit.

Minister Mukazayire and CAHB officials have discussed preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations for seniors, which is scheduled to take place in Rwanda from January 16 to 31, 2026. The discussions also focused on the future development of handball in Rwanda and Africa, with particular attention to fostering the growth of the sport in the country.

After the talks, Dr. Adolphe Aremou Mansourou and his delegation attended a friendly match between the Rwanda U-20 National Handball Team and APR HC, which ended with the national team winning 31-30. The match was part of the national team’s preparations for the “IHF Trophy/Intercontinental Phase” competition, which will take place in Kosovo from March 12 to 16, 2025.

Rwanda was chosen to host the Africa Cup of Nations for seniors after successfully organizing the Africa Cup of Nations for U-20 and U-18 teams in 2022. These events were well-executed, which helped Rwanda earn the opportunity to host another major African handball tournament.

During his visit, Dr. Aremou Mansourou had the chance to visit key sports infrastructure, including the BK Arena and Petit Stade, both of which will be used to host handball matches during the upcoming competition.

Both sides also discussed ways to further develop handball in Rwanda and Africa and ensure the upcoming African Handball Championship is well-organized in Rwanda, as well as how to advance the sport to new heights across the continent.
