Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente Edouard emphasized the Police’s crucial role in maintaining national security during the graduation ceremony of new officers on December 13, 2024, at the Police Training School (PTS-Gishari) in Rwamagana District.

He reminded the 635 graduates, including 108 women, of their responsibility to safeguard the country’s progress and safety. “You must continue to protect these achievements, especially through collaboration with all sectors and the police,” he said.

The Prime Minister praised the graduates for their dedication, highlighting their skills and readiness. “As Rwanda advances, so do the challenges, including technological crimes. You must develop the expertise needed to tackle these effectively,” he added.

Dr. Ngirente also applauded the Rwanda National Police for its exemplary work in ensuring security within Rwanda and in partner countries worldwide.

One of the graduates, AIP Murebwayire Clemence, shared her passion for policing. “I joined because I admire the police. Rwanda is a beautiful country, and we should encourage young girls to pursue their dreams without fear,” she said.

Murebwayire expressed her confidence in applying what she learned over the past four years at PTS-Gishari. “Our training has changed for the better. We are now ready to fight crime using the knowledge we gained here,” she added.

The Director of PTS-Gishari, CP Robert Niyonshuti, highlighted the comprehensive training provided to the officers, including physical fitness exercises and practical skills like marksmanship. These preparations are essential for their role in safeguarding the nation.

Of the 641 trainees who began the program on September 18, 2023, six were unable to complete it due to illness or misconduct.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Local Government, as well as the Chief of Defense Staff, the Commissioner General of Police, and other leaders. Families of the graduates also joined the celebration.

As the country looks to the future, Dr. Ngirente reinforced the ongoing responsibility of the police to protect and serve Rwanda, ensuring a safer future for all.
