Police FC emerged victorious in the 2023-2024 Peace Cup final, defeating Bugesera FC 2-1 at Kigali Pelé Stadium on May 1st, 2024.

The first half was an engaging display of attacking football from both sides. Bugesera FC’s right flank, spearheaded by  Faustin Niyomukiza  and Olivier Dushimimana, posed a constant threat, while Police FC countered with strong defensive work from Moss Rurangwa , Eric Nsabimana , and Marc Nkubana .

Despite several scoring opportunities, the first half remained goalless. The Nigerian striker, Annie Elijah, nearly broke the deadlock for Bugesera FC in the 17th minute with a powerful shot saved by Police FC goalkeeper Rukundo Onesime. Police FC’s best chance came from a Hakizimana Muhadjili strike that flew just wide.

The second half saw the intensity rise further. Bugesera nearly took the lead in the 51st minute when a header from Gilbert Tuyihimbaze  was tipped over the bar by Onesime. However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 57th minute. A defensive lapse by Bugesera FC allowed Djibrine Akuki to capitalize on a loose ball near the goal and slot it past the goalkeeper.

Police FC doubled their lead in the 65th minute through a well-executed corner. Marc Nkubana’s  delivery found Nsabimana  “Zidane,” who rose above the defense to head home emphatically.

Bugesera FC refused to give up and pulled one back in the 80th minute. A penalty converted by Farouk Ruhinda  rekindled their hopes.

The final ten minutes were a tense affair, with Bugesera FC pushing for an equalizer. David Biiriringo  and Olivier Dushimimana  came close, but the law enforcers held firm, with Onesime making a crucial save in the dying moments.

The final whistle blew, sealing a 2-1 victory for Police FC. This marks their second Peace Cup title, following their triumph against Rayon Sports in 2015.

Police FC received 12 million Frw for winning the trophy, while Bugesera FC were awarded 5 million Frw for finishing runners-up. The Law enforcers will represent Rwanda at the Caf Confederation Cup next season.
