Fighting resumed early this Thursday, October 5 on two frontlines in the territory of Masisi (North Kivu), between local armed groups and the M23 rebels.

According to local sources, attacks were launched again very early this Thursday in the region of Nturo-Kilolirwe and Ruvunda, Bashali Kahembe grouping.

However, another front has resumed on the Kibarizo axis, in Bashali Mokoto.

Already, on Wednesday, harsh clashes took place in the evening near Kibarizo, Kirumbu and Busumba, after the M23 rebels received reinforcements from Bwiza, says several sources.

For now, it is difficult to say precisely who controls what between these two factions.

But some sources report that local armed groups retain control of Nturo-Kilolirwe, Kirumbu, Busumba and Kibarizo.

However, they were reportedly pushed back by M23 rebels from Burungu and Rushebeshe, whom they had controlled since Wednesday morning.

Clashes were also reported on Wednesday, October 4, between local armed groups and M23 rebels in the Burungu region,  simultaneous attacks were launched from the strategic hill of Ndalingi in central Burungu as well as from Mihanga in Nyamitaba.

Sources affirm that it was local armed groups who attacked the M23 rebels and succeeded in cutting the road axis at Rushebeshe which they controlled until Wednesday.
