Rwandan President Paul Kagame received the Order of Excellence, Bahamas highest honor, in recognition of his friendship to the Government and People of the Bahamas.

President Kagame received the medal from Bahamas Governor General Cornelius Smith in the presence of Prime Minister Philip Davis, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada, Prime Minister Ariel Henry of Haiti, Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland, and several dignitaries who attended the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of independence of the Bahamas.

“The common history we share is undeniable, and it is undiluted by the ocean that separates us. Those bonds are a solid foundation upon which to build stronger and deeper cooperation.” President Kagame said in his acceptance speech.

President Kagame is in Nassau, the vibrant capital of the Bahamas, to attend the week-long celebration for the country’s 50th anniversary of independence.

As a former colony of Great Britain, The Bahamas’ attainment of independence on July 10, 1973, was relatively late when compared to some of its sister islands in the Caribbean that were also British colonies.
