RCCDN conducts fourth and final training on gender mainstreaming

The fourth and final phase in a series of trainings for members of Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN) on gender mainstreaming was conducted Friday, 8th October 2021 at Hilltop Hotel in Kigali.

The trainings were conducted for four separate groups of less than 18 participants to cover all RCCDN members on this particular issue of empowering organisations so that they can understand and value the importance of considering gender in their activities.

“Gender training for representatives of the network members was looking at gender issues and challenges that we face in our respective organisations and how to address them,” observed Fred Muhizi, the trainer and officer in charge of capacity building at RCCDN.

The workshop sought to understand the importance of mainstreaming gender in all programmes or projects and ensuring that gender equality and equity are respected in different organisations.

He further revealed that they we also to reviewing the status of gender mainstreaming, gender equality, gender barrier analysis and improving gender relation skills for member organisations of RCCDN.

Faustin Vuningoma, the Coordinator of RCCDN thanked participants for their participation in the training and congratulated the organisers as well as the funders for this important capacity building project.

He encouraged everyone who has been empowered to try and apply the gained knowledge when they go back to their organisations to have a positive change.

Participants in the one day training workshop discussed the importance of mainstreaming gender in programmes and projects while looking at the traditional meaning and cultural beliefs.

Different participants highlighted the gender related problems and challenges saying that sometimes it’s a gradual process to overcome.

Muhizi underlined that for organisations to succeed and be sustainable they should be have an inclusive strategy where the interests of both women and men in our organisations are respected.

He told the workshop that RCCDN will continue to support member organisations in gender mainstreaming after these trainings so that they are able to fully implement the concept.

The training was the fourth and final workshop to be conducted on gender mainstreaming targeting members of RCCDN and was supported by the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) through Public Policy Information, Monitoring and Advocacy (PPIMA) project.
