The 17th edition of the Tour du Rwanda, one of the most prestigious cycling events on the African continent, is set to begin tomorrow with a 3.4 km prologue around the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
This UCI 2.1 category race is expected to draw a talented field of riders, with Eritrea’s Henok Mulubrhan, the reigning African champion and 2023 Tour du Rwanda winner, leading the charge. Other top contenders include France’s Fabrice Doubey, who finished 5th last year, Germany’s Moritz Kretschy (9th in 2024), and Belgium’s Milan Donie.
The UAE Emirates and PicNic-PostNL teams will also be sending their young riders to compete against the Rwandan, Eritrean, and Ethiopian climbers on the challenging mountain roads.
Notably, the final stage of this year’s Tour du Rwanda will serve as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming World Championships, which will be held in Rwanda in September. The peloton will race the UCI test event on the same course during the 7th and final stage, providing a preview of the world-class competition to come.
With a star-studded lineup and the added excitement of the upcoming World Championships, the 17th Tour du Rwanda is sure to be a thrilling event for cycling fans across the continent and beyond.
