The much-anticipated Tour du Rwanda 2025 will proceed as planned, despite ongoing security challenges in the neighbouring eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Organizers have reassured fans and participants that Rwanda has taken stringent security measures to ensure the safety of the event, guaranteeing an exciting and smooth race experience for everyone involved.

The Tour du Rwanda 2025, marking its 17th edition as an international race and its 7th year as a UCI 2.1 event, will run from February 23 to March 2, 2025. It promises to be a thrilling competition, attracting top-tier riders and teams from across the globe.

A total of 16 teams will compete in this year’s race, with a diverse mix of Continental teams and national squads. Continental teams like Soudal-Quick Step Dev Team, Lotto Dstny Dev Team, Bike Aid, and UAE Team Emirates Gen Z will battle it out, alongside Rwanda’s own Team Amani, Java-InovoTec, and May Stars.

National teams representing Rwanda, Angola, South Africa, Eritrea, and Ethiopia will bring their best cyclists to the competition. Also, the UCI-CMC team, which participated in last year’s event, will return with riders from several countries.

The 2024 Tour du Rwanda saw UK rider Peter Joe Blackmore of Israel-Premier Tech take home the victory, and now, all eyes are on the upcoming race as riders prepare for the challenge.

The event’s route will take cyclists across Rwanda’s stunning landscape, with eight exciting stages:

  • Stage 1 (Feb 23): Kigali to Kigali (Stade Amahoro) – Time Trial (4 km)
  • Stage 2 (Feb 24): Rukomo (Gicumbi) to Kayonza (158 km)
  • Stage 3 (Feb 25): Kigali to Musanze (113 km)
  • Stage 4 (Feb 26): Musanze to Rubavu (121 km)
  • Stage 5 (Feb 27): Rubavu to Karongi (97 km)
  • Stage 6 (Feb 28): Rusizi to Huye (143 km)
  • Stage 7 (Mar 1): Nyanza to Kigali (114 km)
  • Stage 8 (Mar 2): Kigali to Kigali (73 km)

With the race set against Rwanda’s breathtaking scenery and a carefully planned security strategy in place, the Tour du Rwanda 2025 promises to be another memorable chapter in the history of African cycling.

Riders, teams, and fans can expect a thrilling competition as the country showcases its passion for the sport and its commitment to hosting a world-class event.
