Tanzania’s women’s cricket team clinched the 2025 Kwibuka Women’s Twenty20 Tournament title with a dominant 32-run victory over Zimbabwe’s High Performance XI at Kigali’s Gahanga International Cricket Stadium.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Tanzania posted a competitive total of 99/6 in their allotted 20 overs. The backbone of the innings was a calm innings from Agnes Qwele, who scored 30 off 37 balls, and Hudaa Omary, who contributed 28 off 42 balls, steering the team to respectability.
Zimbabwe struggled in the chase, collapsing to 67 all out in 19.4 overs. The standout performer was Tanzania’s pace bowler Mwanamvua Ushanga, who claimed a match-winning 4 for 12—an economy-packed spell that sealed the win and earned her the Player of the Match accolade .
Additionally, Neema Pius jolted the opposition lineup with 2 quick wickets for just 8 runs in 3 overs, further tightening Zimbabwe’s grip.
On Zimbabwe’s side, Nyasha Gwanzura showed resilience with a top score of 45 off 54 balls, accounting for nearly 70% of their total.
This victory marks Tanzania’s first Kwibuka title since 2019 and their third overall in the tournament’s history.
By lifting the trophy, Tanzania not only honoured the memory behind the spirit of the Kwibuka tournament but also showcased their rising status in East African women’s cricket.
Their bowlers, led by Ushanga and Pius, controlled the final’s crucial moments, while their innings contributors laid a foundation that Zimbabwe cannot over come.
Meanwhile, Uganda claims third place with a 20-run win over Rwanda. Player of the Match: Sarah Tino — 4 overs, 20 runs, 3 wickets. Rwanda managed 87/7 in 20 overs, chasing 107.
Rita Musamali, wan name the Best Fielder of the 11th Edition after 10 matches, 9 dismissals — 6 catches and 3 run outs.
Neema Justine Pius was named the Best Batter of the tournament, gaving gad a consistent and commanding presence at the crease throughout the competition.
Rwanda’s Henriette Ishimwe took home Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Bowler awards of the 11th Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament.
The 12th Edition of thistournament will take place next year.
