The 2025 non-elective General Assembly of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) is set to take place in Juba, South Sudan. The announcement was made by Auka John Gecheo, the Executive Director of CECAFA, who confirmed that the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) had agreed to host the key event.
“We are happy and glad that SSFA has come forward and offered to host the Assembly in Juba next year,” Gecheo said. “The Assembly, which will bring together all CECAFA members, will take place between January and February.”
The General Assembly will serve as a platform to review the past year’s activities and set the stage for the 2025 football calendar in the region. This year, CECAFA successfully organized several major events, including the Dar Port Kagame Cup, the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers, and the Africa Cup of Nations U-20 CECAFA qualifiers. Additionally, CECAFA is set to host the CAF Schools Football Tournament CECAFA Zone and the Africa Cup of Nations U-17 CECAFA qualifiers next month.
CECAFA has also been active in education and development, organizing the Women’s Football leadership course in Ethiopia and the Match Coordinators workshop in Nairobi, Kenya.
Gen. Agustino Madout Parek, President of the SSFA and Vice President of CECAFA, expressed confidence in South Sudan’s ability to host a successful Assembly.
The 2024 General Assembly was held in Mombasa, Kenya, on February 16, while the 2023 Assembly took place in Zanzibar. CECAFA currently has 12 members: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, and Zanzibar.
