The Rwandan cabinet this Friday approved the waiver of visa fees for nationals of member countries of the African Union (AU), the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and the Commonwealth.
The objective is to promote the implementation of Rwanda’s open policy, according to a statement. More than 90 countries in the world are thus exempt from visa fees when entering Rwanda.
While in London for the Africa-United Kingdom Summit 2020, President Paul Kagame announced that beyond the African continent, Rwanda was to open doors to member states of OIF and the Commonwealth, an organization that Rwanda joined in 2009.
In June this year, Rwanda will host the 26th meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM). Rwanda is recognized as one of the countries which militate for the free movement of people and goods within the African Union and the first on the continent to abolish visas for travelers, in accordance with a directive registered in the agenda of the African Union.
