Rwanda is expected to receive less rainfall than usual in September, while some parts of the country could experience strong winds, according to Meteo Rwanda.
The weather agency forecasts rainfall of between 20mm and 120mm during the month, below the long-term September average of 35mm to 213mm.
The first 10 days of September are expected to remain largely dry, with sunny periods during the day. Rainfall during this period is forecast to range from below 5mm to 30mm across the country.
Despite the overall dry outlook, some areas could receive relatively higher rainfall. Parts of Musanze and Rubavu, as well as western and northern parts of Burera and Nyabihu, are expected to receive between 80mm and 120mm.
Other parts of the Northern and Western provinces could record between 50mm and 80mm of rainfall.
Temperatures are also expected to be slightly above the long-term September average. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 22°C and 33°C, while night temperatures could fall as low as 10°C or reach 20°C.
The highest daytime temperatures, of between 31°C and 33°C, are expected in Bugesera, parts of Kigali, Nyagatare, Gatsibo, Kayonza and Ngoma, as well as parts of Rwamagana, Kirehe, the Amayaga region and Bugarama plain.
Meanwhile, temperatures could fall to between 10°C and 12°C at night in parts of Musanze, Nyaruguru, Nyabihu, Nyamagabe and Rusizi.
Meteo Rwanda also forecasts moderate to strong winds of between 4 and 12 metres per second across the country. Winds of 8 to 12 metres per second are expected in parts of Rubavu, Rutsiro, Karongi and Nyamasheke.
Similar wind speeds are forecast during the first 10 days of September in eastern Rubavu, western Karongi, northern Nyamasheke and parts of Rutsiro.
The agency has advised residents in Nyamasheke, Karongi, Rutsiro, Rusizi and Rubavu to take preventive measures against possible impacts of strong winds.
