Rema, first African musician to perform at Ballon d’Or ceremony

Nigerian afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made history as the first African artiste to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The 23-year-old performed at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, France, on Monday night.

Rema thrilled the audience with a performance of his hit song, ‘Calm Down.’

The award organisers shared a clip of his electrifying performance via their verified X handle with the caption; “Calm Down!

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Rema performed at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, France, on Monday,31, 2023 which saw Inter Miami and Argentina forward Lionel Messi win the topmost football prize for a record eighth time.

The Ballon d’Or, established by the French news magazine France Football in 1956, annually honours the world’s finest players.

Rema performed his global hit ‘Calm Down’ to an audience filled with the most prominent figures in the sport today.

Midway into his performance, he descended from the stage to exchange handshakes with athletes such as Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva.
