Rwanda Energy Group (REG) dispatched Equity Bank Hawks of Kenya to set up a date with the Kenya Port Authority (KPA) in the final for this year’s FIBA African Women Basketball League (AWBL).
The Rwanda side faced off Equity Bank Hawks 76-61 to reach the final and subsequently qualify for the continental championship slated for December in Cairo, Egypt.
REG came from behind to beat Kenya Equity to renew their group stage rivals with KPA.
Betty Kalanga who played the entire 40 minutes started for the Rwandan side scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists as Faith Hayes added 15 to the final tally.
In the first quarter, the bankers led 20-16, but REG recovered in the second quarter to tie the match 35-35 at the break.
REG’s 21-10 third quarter showing gave them an 11-point lead heading into the final stanza, which the bankers couldn’t recover as they went 20-16 ahead for the win.
In the classification matches, APR of Rwanda defeated Vijana Queens 78-57 while Gladiators won the other match 83-59 against Nile Legends of South Sudan.
REG face Kenya Port Authority (KPA) in the final, the Kenya laides picked up a 74-53 victory against Uganda’s JKL Lady Dolphins.
