One company was fined Rwf 4.4million for evading taxes 20 times; implying Rwf 221,186 Frw was misappropriated.
On the side of taxpayers, they issued invoices that did not match what the buyers paid from the shops. Five taxpayers were fined 10 times for misappropriation, and three were fined 20 times.
The electronic billing system (EBM) was launched in Rwanda in 2013.
The tax body has urged all customers to request an EBM receipt and to keep in mind that the payment amount made is equivalent to that printed on the receipt.
These traders are required to reconsider and use EBMs effectively to avoid severe penalties provided by law.
