Huye International Stadium witnessed an intense encounter on Saturday as Mukura Victory Sports edged Rayon Sports 2-1 in a rescheduled Day 15 league match, halting Royan Sports FC in an impressive winning streak.
The match kicked off under wet and slippery conditions, with both teams testing each other cautiously in the opening minutes. Mukura, eager to improve their league position, relied on their defensive solidity to contain Rayon Sports’ attacking offensive. Despite persistent efforts, Rayon struggled to create clear-cut chances, while Mukura’s resilience began to show in counter-attacks.
The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute when Mukura’s Jordan Nzau Ndimbumba connected with a well-placed pass from Zuberi to slot the ball past Khadime, silencing the visiting Rayon fans. The hosts capitalized on their momentum just three minutes later as Niyonizeye Fred pounced on a defensive error to double Mukura’s lead, sending their supporters into a frenzy.
Rayon Sports, trailing 2-0, appeared unsettled as the first half came to an end, while Mukura entered the break with confidence and a solid defensive plan.
The second half began with Rayon Sports making three substitutions, bringing on Muhire Kevin, Niyonzima Olivier, and Aziz Bassane to reinvigorate their attack. The changes brought immediate energy, and in the 53rd minute, Rayon was awarded a penalty after Bassane was fouled inside the box. Ngagne stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.
Tensions flared moments later when Rayon’s goalkeeper coach, Mazimpaka André, was sent off for arguing with referee Mulindangabo Moïse. The disruption, however, didn’t derail the visitors, who continued pressing for an equalizer.
Mukura’s coach, Afahmia Lotfi, responded with tactical substitutions, introducing Sunzu and Hakizimana Zuberi to maintain their attacking threat and defend their lead. Sunzu nearly extended Mukura’s advantage in the 63rd minute with a powerful strike, but Khadime made a crucial save to keep Rayon in the game.
As the clock ticked down, Rayon Sports intensified their efforts, making further changes to their lineup. However, Mukura’s defense, marshaled by goalkeeper Sebwato Nicolas, remained impenetrable. The final whistle confirmed Mukura’s 2-1 triumph, earning them three valuable points and lifting them to seventh place in the standings with 21 points.
Mukura players celebrated their victory, for Rayon Sports, the loss marked a setback in their campaign but left them still leading the league with 36 points from 15 matches.
The league action continues tomorrow at Huye International Stadium as Amagaju FC hosts APR FC at 3:00 PM in what promises to be another exciting clash.
